WELCOME TO MISSIONS IN THE AMAZON

Our Mission

Missions in the Amazon is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization bringing holistic transformation to villages throughout the Peruvian Amazon Rainforest by forming sustainable, holistic communities led by indigenous leaders.

Our Values

Authenticity

Whether it be through mission experiences, reports, correspondence, or even in giving to a cause, the amount of red tape, restrictions, or administration that people encounter can be very frustrating. To combat that, we are committed to giving people the most authentic experience possible when partnering with us. We also strive to provide an experience that exposes. teaches, and provides an onramp to both opportunities locally and globally around the world.

Constantly Learning

We strive to continually learn from all of our relationships in developing our strategies and initiatives. Most importantly, listening to the indigenous villagers and their needs/desires. With all of our initiatives, we work together with key leaders within the community and incorporate wisdom from around the world in our community impact. We will always differ to the indigenous leaders and will always operate with love and understanding.

Sustainability

Our passion is to help villagers flourish throughout the Amazon Rainforest by providing knowledge, skills, resources, and the hope of a better future. The strategy starts with listening for how to build the most authentic foundation possible. From there, we move to the development stage, which creates sustainability. Lastly, as communities begin to flourish, they begin to commission their own villagers to bring the same hope and purpose to those who have yet to find it.

OUR
HISTORY

Having an indigenous Peruvian Amazonian as our Director, Jorge Montero knows and understands the culture of the villagers throughout the Amazon River and its tributaries. This knowledge allows us to quickly develop relationships with hundreds of villagers of different backgrounds and beliefs.

Once we make contact with a new village, we dedicate ourselves to building relationships with the villagers by seeking to learn and understand their culture, desires and needs firsthand. We then develop innovative systems and models in partnership with indigenous leaders that provide sustainability and the hope of a prosperous future.

Next, we partner with people around the world that have resources and a passion to provide hope to villagers. We believe that all partnerships should be mutually beneficial, so we offer a wide range of resources to our partners, from firsthand experiences like mission experiences and internships, to speaking engagements and ongoing mentoring services.

Finally, we work together with our partners and communities to dream of what's next and step into new exciting experiments (when appropriate), and always maintain availability if needs or problems arise.

Where We
Serve

mapiquito.webp

In order to reach us from around the world, teams will need to travel first to Lima, Peru and then take a 1 hour 55 minute flight northeast to Iquitos. Iquitos is the largest city in the world that can't be reached by road, and is home to an impressive 505,000+ people. It is here, where the primary tributaries from throughout Peru converge and form the Amazon River, where it then flows east across South America and empties into the Atlantic ocean.  We currently have a mission base and several communities we serve in the greater Iquitos area (a majority of our team and volunteer staff live here).

Once we've loaded up on supplies and resources in Iquitos, we travel by road from Iquitos to Nauta (where we have a port and keep a few of our boats). We then travel west on the Marañón River towards our mission base (located about half-way between Nauta and Lagunas on the map above). Our mission house has a full kitchen, 2 meeting halls, and the capacity to sleep 80 people, complete with 11 suites with individual bathrooms, and 2 bunk rooms that can sleep 20 people each. We also have a hospital (medical, dental, nutrition, and pharmacy), library, conference center, bakery, and a community kitchen. We utilize all of these assets throughout the year to serve the 80+ communities throughout the region to the best of our ability!

A majority of the villages we serve find themselves somewhere along the Marañón River, Chambira River (where our mission base is located), Ucayali, and Huallaga Rivers. Our impact zone is indicated above with the shaded red region above.

Partnering With Us

One of our passions is to establish relationships with individuals, businesses, and churches around the world that have a heart for missions (especially those with a heart for the Peruvian Amazon Rainforest). Once we get connected with a potential partner, we aim to develop that relationship in several ways.

We always start with the goal of unity and understanding one another. From goals and ideas, to dreams and expectations that both sides may have. From there, we love exposing people to the work we are doing in the field. Often times, this means connecting people who are seeking mission experiences or internships with a life-changing adventure. We are open to sending any individual, family, or group to make a lasting impact on the Peruvian people. We have numerous initiatives to get involved with (building projects, community work, sustainable business development, and teaching in our seminars just to name a few).

We also love to partner with individuals and businesses! We have more than 10 business partners who celebrate their involvement with Missions in the Amazon inside of their business as a marketing tool!

Lastly, we provide coaching, mentoring, and personal growth tools to any partner who would like such resources withing their organization.
