Who We Are

Our Story

Together, Jason Reiswig and Jorge Montero founded Missions in the Amazon in September of 2009 after spending three months with his wife alongside Jorge's family and ministry in the Peruvian Amazon Jungle. Jason and Jorge’s relationship quickly grew into a brotherhood as they developed trust and began using their unique personalities and giftings to develop the organization. With Jorge being the Director and boots on the ground, Jason utilizes his giftings and scientific background to develop strategies for development and growth throughout the jungle from the United States. Their leadership is complimented with the passions of their wives, Chelsea and Elvira.

Missions in the Amazon regularly sends Jason and mission experience teams to the jungle and communicates daily with Jorge through the use of modern technology. Missions in the Amazon's heart to empower and equip people to live out their callings drives its team to serve people both in the jungle and around the world.

Our Volunteer Staff

We simply wouldn't be the organization we are today without the hundreds of volunteer staff we've had serve alongside us over the years. As a young organization, we worked primarily with teenage and young adult volunteers that would give of their time on school breaks. After traveling 15-20 hours up the river, we would do small, community-based events and building projects with the simple goal of fostering relationships and gaining trust.

As we grew and became a familiar presence in more and more villages, we were privileged to listen to and assess the villagers' various needs, interests, and desires. We then went and pursued Peruvians in Iquitos, Lima, and other cities in Peru with the appropriate technical and professional expertise to aid in our development. Our efforts were continually rewarded as we found volunteers of high character and a heart that eagerly wanted to pour into the communities we were serving.  With every initiative we set off to accomplish, we experienced something truly beautiful. Not only were the villagers rewarded with help, innovative ideas and care, the volunteers returned home fulfilled and looking for their next opportunity to serve.

Today, our Missions in the Amazon team now has a network of teachers, professors, attorneys, nurses, dentists, orthodontists, doctors, surgeons, politicians, nutritionists, optometrists, pharmacists, farmers, chefs, scientists, pastors, electricians, mechanics, accountants, fishermen, business leaders, photographers, fundraisers, party planners and many more tradesmen who graciously offer themselves to us throughout the year as opportunities present themselves. The slideshow below is but a glimpse of our amazing 150+ person team in action!
